Dr. Gabriel Costache is Vice President of Engineering at FotoNation, where he leads the development of advanced imaging and AI-driven technologies. With over 25 years of experience in applied research, Gabriel specializes in architecting and delivering complex systems that span computer vision, embedded AI, and real-time processing.

He has a deep technical background in building scalable, production-grade solutions, and has led multidisciplinary, distributed engineering teams through all stages of product development, from prototyping and algorithm design to deployment on consumer and automotive platforms. His work integrates expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computer vision, with a strong emphasis on research-driven innovation.

Gabriel holds a PhD in Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence from the National University of Ireland, Galway and both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering from the University Politehnica of Bucharest. He is the inventor of over 10 U.S. patents and the author of 5 journal articles and more than 20 peer-reviewed conference papers.

His primary focus is on developing privacy-aware, user-centric AI technologies that solve real-world challenges through technical and scientific excellence.
